The house you helped remodel: Part 3 [PICS!]

Friends, we’re a year in. It was just a wee over 12 months ago that we bought this Clampet mansion – marred with blue carpet and linoleum as it was – and started transforming it into our wonder palace. Note: hopefully you still consider it a “wonder palace” when you learn our two-year-old has gleefully potty trained/missed the pot all over the floor for the last half a year. We consume lots and lots of Pine Sol. Yay tile!

Moving on.

Let’s start at the entry. I wish I had a better “before” pictures but I grabbed these off the old real estate listing.

before entry

We sanded the front doors and stained them darker, stained the trim, added a faboo Mexican star lamp, some ‘Merican pride wreaths from Pier 1 and a half circle welcome mat. Gotta feng shui that entry and all.

Open the french doors, and voile:

We added beams,  wallpaper, a handmade galvanized pipe chandelier with edison bulbs (thanks Etsy!), the obvious flooring change, a bench from the fine emporium known as Home Goods and a 6-foot painting of a dove I did.

Is Knighty McKnightface feeling shame that he got upstaged by a bird?

I couldn’t figure out what to paint and then it came to me – a dove is welcoming! It’s also a giant bird with scary claws, so while we’re happy to have you, there’s an element of danger hanging out with us. You never know what’s going to go down at a Karvunidis party. We have Absinthe.

Knighty is fiercely protecting those copper vases I got at Target.

The prize possession of my life is that original Dali I bought when I was verrrrrrry sleepy after surgery last summer. The Buddah pillow is like, #girlwhy.

I like to have lots of light in the house so I painted a light bulb. Makes sense.

I think you saw this view before, but I got rid of the rug I hated and had to celebrate with photo evidence.

I commissioned this canvas art from Pasadena artist Amber K (Insta @creamiiart). Love it!

And hey, while we’re talking about Instagram and artists, here is some more art I had done and I love!

I had LA artist Susanna Boney (Insta @susannannanna) rework an old canvas I had on hand. I had bought it thinking it was an original piece and later learned it was basically crap from China. So! I called upon this amazing lady to rework the canvas into something great. Observe:

After! It’s above Bee’s bed. I had planned for this to be in a common area of the house, but Bee begged to keep it in her room, so fine. I have a very bougie 7-year-old.

She also begged for the dog canvas. Dammit. I commissioned that one as a canvas rework by The Konfused (instagram @thekonfused). If you get nothing else out of this post, you have some cool ass new artists to follow on Insta.

The younger two girls share a room. They’re in love, sorry. The art around them is pretty much from Home Goods and Rosenberry rooms but I did commission the ballerinas on canvases. I’m really sad that I can’t find the contact info for the artist. It’s been a few years. Boo. And if you can’t tell, I have a major thing for stencils.

Also, here is a peek at the office, although it’s not all done, so you just get to see half the room.

Since this pic was taken, I also re-stained the table top dark and added a super soft gray rug. Next post!

PS- MAJOR SIDE NOTE: I feel the need to say that anyone can make their life look amazing in pictures. Nothing is what it looks like on Instagram or peoples’ blogs. My house is just as messy and crazy right now as yours, I just happen to pull it together for blog posts. I also happen to really, seriously care about art. Maybe you care about animals or fiction or zoning out on Facebook to relax because you work hard and deserve it. Don’t compare lives with someone else’s passion.

You are enough and you are amazing.

Have an awesome day!

EDIT, because my Facebook people are smart: get caught up on the “Before”, and afters Part 1 and Part 2.
